Got my approval !!!
Hello all,
I am so excited I could just BUST.
I got my insurance approval letter today. All my test are done. I
had my sleep test done last night. Came home with the CPAP thingy
though. I will have to follow up with Dr. Vines in 2 to 3 weeks
about this. Does anyone know if my surgery will go ahead and be
scheuled or will I have to have clearance form Dr. Vines before they
will schedule a day? Either way I am greatful. My whole process
has been overwhelmingly fast. I think I may have set a record or
something. What do ya'll think. I just had my consult with Dr.
Miles on Sept 10th. Pysc visit on the 23rd, Nut class, labs X-ray
and sleep eval on the 29th. And then sleep test the 30th. And
letter of approval today. I can not believe it happened so fast.
I think it is a sign ..
When scheduling my appointments I ask to be put their cancellation
list and I would almost immediatly get a call with an appointment.
Now if only the 15 of the reqired 20 lbs will come off as fast. Any
tips.
I really enjoyed hearing everyones milestones monday night and can't
wait to sharing mine. Thanks to all of you.

Congratulations Mike!
I don't know why you are required to lose 20 lbs. I wasn't and didn't. I had lost some before the surgery, but not 20 lbs.

The required weight loss is doctor specific. Dr. Miles has become quite
adamant about patients losing weight before surgery. It reduces that fat
around the liver, increases your chances of having lap surgery instead of
open surgery, and improves outcomes in general. It also shows him that the
patient is sincere in wanting to lose weight. Dr. Schmitt (in the same
office) is asking his patients to lose, but I have not heard how adamant he
is on this point. I know I've heard that Dr. Miles has cancelled or
post-poned surgeries of patients who didn't lose like he asked. I have not
heard that about Dr. Schmitt yet, but it may be true. I don't know about any
other of the doctors in the area as to whether they are asking/requiring
weight loss before surgery. When you see Dr. Pennington, he will let you
know his requirements. Also keep in mind that each doctor has his own
post-op nutrition guide, medications to take or not take, etc. So if you see
someone post something that does not make sense to you, or is different from
what your doctor says, remember that you should follow YOUR doctors
recommendations. They are all somewhat different.
Warm hugs,
Sherry
