c-section/ surgery

i am still deciding if i even want to start this process to have the
surgery, you all sound like its more of a hassle than dieting, and
you have about the same outcome, some are successful some aren't!
some one asked about having this after c-section, well august of '01
I had a c-section for my twins (i Was huge to begin with and after
that i am massive) but after they took the staples out of my incision
it popped open in the doc office and about a quart of broken down
blood and water poured out of it, then they wouldn't restaple it and
it had to heal on its own. they told me it was because of my weight
that the skin couldn't heal right. ok now that i have all the gory
details out of the way has anyone had any problems like this with
their insicions from the surgery because lord knows i DO NOT want to
go thru that again! (i could actually look down my stomach and see my
layer of fat). And is anyone from MOntana, i am over on the eastern
side and was wondering if anyone knew who i could contact about even
a consultation.
thank you in advance for your answers

    Serena,

I didn't take it you were being down on the surgery. If I came across that way, I apologize. My insurance company also wanted the physician supervised diet. I did not have that. They turned me down the first time and then I sent them a letter documenting all of my dieting attempts throughout my life. I showed them how much a physician supervised diet would cost them, and how much my meds would cost for a year, ending by explaining that even after the physician supervised diet I still quite possibly would need the surgery. They overturned their decision. My doctor wrote them a letter explaining that she felt I needed the surgery, even though she had not supervised a diet, she knew of my attempts. It worked. If your insurance company gives you a hard time, Don't give up. I can understand not being able to pay for it yourself, I could not do that either. Hang in there.

    Barb and everyone else,
sorry if i came off as being down on the surgery, I'm honestly all
for it. I was actually talking about the success rate with the
insurance companies, i know mine will give me hassle, I guess it came
thru in my last post in a way i didn't mean for it to. I called my
ins (which is montana medicaid) and they have a whole list of things
i have to do, like be under a doc's care for a year for weight loss.
My doctor won't fudge anything, he would make me do the diet thing
for a year although i have been dieting all my life! If i had the
money I would get it in a heart beat and pay for it cash so i dont'
have to deal with the "jumping thru hoops" thing! But alas i am not
    rich LOL.
I have a bmi of 51 but no other comorbidies (is that the right word?)
other than i was diagnosed with PCOS in June and that of course
hinders any weight loss and can make me eventually diabetic! (oh
    yipee)
I have 3 very young children ages 3 and the twins are 16 months old.
So i have to do something, I have decided i am going to work out and
do my low carb diet for 6 months and if i am not pleased with the
results i am pursueing this surgery very heavily!
well thank you for lending your ears :)

do the low carb thing under your doctors supervision, that will count
as a doctor monitored diet, that way you'll be six months ahead
when/if you do decide to pursue this.

    Serena:
You need to talk to your doctor. I am not sure if the insurance
company will recognize it but you do have a comorbitity. PCOS is
caused by Insulin Resistance. That in itself will lead to Diabetes if
not treated. Your weight, if caused by the IR, will be harder to
loose because your metabolism is wacked out by the IR.
It is a proven fact that any symptoms you have with your PCOS will be
improved by weight loss, that your risk for developing diabetes will
be lowered and that the weight is harder to loose because of the IR
and PCOS. There are a number of women I know who are IR and have PCOS
that have lost weight after being prescribed Glucophage. Talk to your
    doctor again.
Hope this helps in your quest.
    Cindy
