Hi Selina,
Originally I put in for only 2 weeks off. Then I decided why come back for
the 4th of July week, so I changed it to July 7, which will be almost 3
weeks. I am going in for a couple of hours next Tuesday and Wednesday,
because we have a new group of 4th year pharmacy students starting a
rotation in our Drug Information Center at Samford (which is where I work).
We always have 2 days of mostly orientation to the center and what will be
accomplished during the month. We are short one faculty member (new one
starts mid-July), one person has gone to England for Wimbledon, one is out
for a hysterectomy, and I am out. Leaves only 1 part time faculty and the
director, so I volunteered to come in and do part of the orientation. Do I
feel ready? Yes, physically. Mentally, I haven't had a vacation since before
I started pharmacy school in 1995, so this is the first break I've had.
Pretty sad when you have surgery to get a break from work. ho ho
Bottom line, yes, I think it is doable. Especially if yours is not a
demanding job. Then again, do you sit in a chair all day? This is abdominal
surgery, and sitting for long periods can get uncomfortable, not to mention
is not good for you. So if you can plan to get up and walk around often, and
not sit for long periods, I think you could do it fairly comfortably. I'd
probably want to plan to rest when I got home -- maybe have supper brought
in or have someone else fix it for you.
Good luck. Start finding your protein now, and get some of that on board.
Get your body in optimum condition so you will heal faster. Take it easy
after the surgery except for the walking, so you have time to recuperate.
Don't plan tasks to accomplish while you are off, so you can concentrate on
the healing, juggling the food, drink, protein, and medicines. If you are on
diabetic meds, be prepared to check your sugars often. I have already dropped my
one medication because my sugars are so low now. I even had an episode of
hypoglycemia (too low -- sweats and shaking) on Monday.
You'll do well. Be sure and let us know when you get a date. Hope to meet
you at a support meeting.
Warm hugs,
Sherry
