Melissa

2007-01-31 17:03:23

Well, I just wanted to let everyone know that Melissa had a pulmonary embolism. The fear is that her brain was deprived of adequate oxygen for a long period of time. Things do not look good for Melissa. She is having an EEG tomorrow which will tell weather she has any brain activity. Tomorrow at 5 pm her family will decide what to do. If anyone wants to drive to Birmingham tomorrow to say good bye to Melissa...she is in UAB CCU...Carol Wyskida will be there also. Please continue praying for a miracle!!!! Also, pray for Steven <her husband

Tim's project update pictures...

2007-01-31 14:44:10

You know... If I could actually spend a whole day on this "project", I
might get done with it. This guy is going through a divorce, so he
hijacks about half of my working time enlisting my services as a
marriage counslor. Anyway, I got all the wood replaced, everything
trimmed out, nail holes filled and I even managed to bang on a starter
course of shingles today too. Tomorrow will be the sanding/priming and
finish the shingles day, then on to the next problem area...

2007-01-29 21:40:51

Went to doc today had mylogram the old needle into the spine trick I
have consumed more water today than a wls support group. I need to
join a frequent unination support group. Seeme I have a herniated
disc be tween 3 and 4 lumbar. Nothing serious should not delay wls I
am a happy camper. He said the WLS will be great for my back. The
receptionist that admitted me was very interested in this and asked
me to please come back so she could see me. BUT she is pregnant (just
found out) I told her about support group meetings. Also the nurse in
same day waiting was interested and asked me to come back and visit.
So I have been a little before poster child for wls. I still have to
see Dr Jones to see possible treatment (SHOT IN BACK) I am hoping it
gets better quick on its on. I just want to walk and walk get a
little better prepared.

WLS/Marie

2007-01-29 10:11:57

Marie, you bring up a good point and one I've thought
about ALOT!!!!!
Eating is a habit, a comfort, and a hobby for me!!!
What in the world am I going to do with myself if I
can't eat?!?!?!?! I might actually have to get a
normal life that isn't spend in front of the computer
or TV with a bagful of chips or a box of Little
Debbies!!!!!! I am very involved in church and water
aerobics at the Y but, other than that, I really don't
do anything outside the house (besides work).
It's got to be really wierd after WLS--I can't imagine
getting stressed out and upset and not being able to
eat!!!!!!!
I'm not knocking the surgery at all, just wondering how
people handle the changes!

Tim's next door project is almost done...

2007-01-28 17:32:47

For those of you that have been following the "Project", it is drawing
to a close, and here are the latest pictures. And I had my "trial by
rain" yesterday morning (Mon.) when that little storm front came
through. First it took all my tarpaper and blew it somewhere down Wes'
way exposing all of my "raw" handy work, then it dumped about 50 gallons
of water in my "work area", but the extra tar paper under the flashing
and my quad layers of roofing tar where I had installed all the new
plywood AND sealing the seams in the plywood passed the test without so
mush as a drop of water being able to penetrate. I was pleased, and the
"owner" was ecstatic. The last pictures shows two things... what type
of beer a left handed person drinks, and evidence that I work "cheap".

Survivor benefit questions...

2007-01-27 03:29:03

At Saturday's meeting, the topic came up about having a will, and how
things were handled if you did/did not have a will. As some of you
know, my Step Father passed away two Sunday's ago, and my Mother is
really getting the run around from his kids about the house and land,
personal property, etc. They are telling her that "daddy" made a will
before he died, but they can't produce one. So, we have no idea if
there really is/is not one. My question is to those of you that have
had the unfortunate occasion to have traveled down this path ahead of
me, is what rights of survivorship does a spouse have, will, or no will.
There is already what I guess to be close to $300,000.00 dollars CASH,
that has disappeared from his bank account, so let's say that "trust" is
not in my vocabulary at the moment.
And yes, I know we need to consult with an attorney, but I would just
like to put out the question for "feelers". Thanks to all that reply,
and please feel free to reply privately to timsuggs@...
Tim.

ok i feel better inside

2007-01-26 21:03:57

Ok gang I talked with Tracy at Doc Miles Office. She said in the
event I have to get a steroid shot in the back it will not effect the
surgery so inside I feel so much better. I can almost thisnk of a
joke. I am really not one to get depressed but this has been rough I
wanted to be walking exersising getting ready for surgery.
Since I sterted this process I have had surgery to attach my quad
muscle and tendon to my knee and now the back went out. before this i
was losing weight walking four miles. The first time in my life I am
looking forward to next year.

Hello Everyone,
I hope your Sunday is going great so far. If anyone wants to make a web page
about thier WLS, I tried a place out this morning and made a page that was only
about 5 easy steps and free. It only took about 10 min to do but I did not put
any pics on it. I did however notice a pic page option. Just go to my other

The pain has now gone when I am sitting but when I try to walk feels
like butt cheeks are caught in a vice and painful. Never had any back
problem to go longer than 3 days.
As surgery is fast approaching i do not want any steriod shots. Just
looking for someone that might have had same similar probs. taking

Hi all. I saw Peggins and her daughter Lorraine today.
Peggins looks wonderful. She is beautiful, just like
her daughter and is doing very well. We had a lovely
visit. Dr. Clements considered d/c'ing around noon but
she would be home alone so she will probably go home
tomorrow. Let's all pray she has a great day and night
and gets to come home tomorrow! We are so proud of
you Peggins..

Hello! I just wanted to let everyone know that I finally got my pc
fixed. I am thankful to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and well-
wishes. They are all appreciated. I am sorry I havent gotten to
respond to you guys before now. I am trying to receive e-mail and get
caught up. As far as my health... I made it to the other side! IF
ONLY I knew what to do with myself now! :) I have done very well, all
things considered. I havent regretted having this surgery for one
second. It isnt the easiest thing I have ever done, and I can
honestly say that I agree that this surgery isnt for everyone. But,
to all that have come before me, thanks for the inspiration! And to
all that are right behind me, Best Wishes! If you have made up your
mind and know in your heart this is the answer for you, Go For It!
And if there is anything I can do to help, just let me know!
OK, Brittany is wanting her turn with the pc, she has missed playing
her games. I will update soon. I also need to know how to change my
name here... since I am no longer preop! :)
Again, thanks to everyone!

wanted to let you know that she is doing GREAT. Surgery
went perfect (late, but perfect). She got into her room
at about 3:30 this afternoon. She was nauseated but she
feels good. She is in room W754 in the Spain Wallace

morning. Thank you so much for the support that you are
giving to mom. You are all truly a blessing to her and

2007-01-21 17:25:35

Duh II!

Had my sleep study..strange feelings...

2007-01-21 12:24:01

Well, I had both my sleep studies, Tuesday night and Wed night at
Carraway...the first night was fine, but the second night when they
put the CPAP on me, I began to panic...I really am not "technically"
clostrophobic, but having ANYTHING covering my face, head or airways,
scares me silly...and when they put the CPAP on and turned on the air
flow, i had to sit up for a few minutes just to calm down and think
the situation through...the tech had already spent an hour attaching
me to every wire in the place and given me 2 Ambien to help me
sleep...so I wasn't going to just quit because I didnt want his time
to have been wasted...I did cry, then I calmed down and just
breathed until I finally fell asleep...
After the first night, what he told me is that I have Hypopnea versus
apnea...rather than my breathing stopping I have times where my
breathing is very shallow, my O2 levels drop though not into a very
dangerous zone, but that the times per hour that my body awakens or
arouses, was 39.4 times an hr...which he said was pretty bad...So I
think a CPAP is being delivered to my home, though I am HOPING that
with the surgery, my problems are lessened and I dont need it...the
doctor before the sleep study said that on a scale of 1-4, with 1
being the most open airway you can have, I have a 4...so I don't know
where it will go...but hopefully that was enough to get insurance
moving again...
HUGS all
Melissa

Wanna have some fun???

2007-01-20 12:11:42

And I bet y'all thought I was gonna suggest something like buying a
wrecked Kia that had just come through the "crusher" and "swapping" it
with Rona's new car. Couldn't you see the look on her face when she
came out and saw her "flattened" car after we got someone to go in and
tell her they had "dinged" her car in the parking lot.
I might save that one for later however, but, if you want to have some
"good" fun, then why not get out of the house and go see a great bunch
of kids put on one of the best musicals of our times. That's right,
Shades Valley Theatre is having their final musical of the season with
their production of GREASE! Tickets are dirt cheap, they've got
wheelchair access out the ying yang, and one of the best groups of
actors and technicians they have ever had, assures us of a fantastic show!
As many of you know, Matt, our youngest son, is an integral part of the
Shades Valley Theatre (SVT) scene. This will be his last show for SVT
his senior year there. We just this week accepted a full theatre
scholarship for him at UAB Theatre, so he'll be off to college next
semester. Sadly, SVT will be loosing much of their talent pool with
this final show, and Matt has assured me that this will be their finest
production yet. The seniors are going "all out" to try and make this
single weekend the most memorable show in SVT's history.
Joy and I would love for each and every one of you to come and see the
show, and you have a personal invitation from us. They WILL sell out
EVERY performance for all four days, so if you want to be a part of
history in the making, call and order your tickets as soon as possible.
And I suggest you arrive an hour early for the best parking at the top
where it's flat, and for the best seating as well.
Here's a little sidebar: There will be a lot of leather jackets in this
show, but there will be only ONE, authentic, black leather Harley
Davidson Motorcycle Jacket on stage. It was made in 1973, and was sold
by Wilbur George at HD Sales on 24th Street South and that leather
jacket has seen more "beer, blood and babes" than you'll ever know.
Plus it has over 100,000 miles "in the wind" atop a Midnight Black 1973
Harley Davidson Sportster that was sold the same day as the jacket. The
jacket has flown the club patches of The Devils Deciples - Birmingham,
AL. and The Iron Crossmen - Atlanta, GA. in it's heyday. So how do I
know all of this you ask? Well, you see... I still have the keys to
that Midnight Black 1973 Harley Davidson Sportster, and I still remember
the smile on Wilbur's face as he watched me ride off into the sunset. I
was 15 years old, but I became a man that day.
Hope to see you at the show!
Tim.

WHAT! An apple on a monkey's head?

2007-01-19 16:25:39

O.K., so this message is nothing about an apple or a monkey, but you gotta admit
"We miss "Pinky's" unusual twist on "The Norm". So I thought a monkey might just
remind us of Tim, since he has been neglecting us of his usual insightful B.S.
(barnyard schooling) LOL.
I'll try to also compete with "mule" as a poet...o.k. here we go:
"NO FISHIN' TODAY"
Wanted to go fishin, with my pole to bait,
Had to stay home, to find out my fate,
So by the old phone, I sat there and wait,
and this past Monday they called, with my surgery date.
Thats right folks! I officialy have a surgery date set for May 22, 2002
First time in my life looking forward to being a big loser! lol
Looks like the table will still be warm from "Mule's" wls the week before!
o.k. group, this is when I need your encouragement. This is starting to sink in.
At my size, this old boy is as terrified as I am excited.
Chan (wls bound)
p.s. Can't belive I passed the "fruit & nut" doc after hanging out with "pinky
(Tim) & the Brain (Wes).

You are at the very beginning of a whole new life - - a good place to be.

Hi all. Did anyone read in the Sunday paper about a man named

due to complications resulting from weight-loss surgery. I have
never heard of him has anyone else? Please let me know if anyone
knows anything about his problems.

Decisions, decisions!!!!!!

2007-01-18 08:46:38

I just found out there is a doctor locally that does the WLS. He
only does it open and has only done 1 so far. His nurse told me that
the surgery is the same as the one they do for gastric ulcers, and he
has been doing that for 27 years. His name is Randall Cook, and he
has studied under Dr. Stahl to train for the surgery.
It would be better to have a local doctor, but I'm nervous about his
inexperience and about having the open vs. the lap. Opinions,
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone :)
Well, Insurance wants me to have a sleep study so I went today for my
prelims and they signed me up for my sleep study for tonight and
tomorrow night! I thought from what they said it would be another 2
weeks before I had the study cause of scheduling conflicts...So
hopefully after tomorrow insurance will get back on track and approve
me! Excited again!!

Newbie here

2007-01-16 16:46:42

I'm new here and thought I'm jump in and introduce
myself! I'm Karen and live in Montgomery, AL. I'm 40
years old (almost typed 39, not used to that new number
yet!!!!!), married w/children.
WLS has been in the back of my mind for a while now. I
know several people that have had it w/great success.
I recently resolved a very stressful situation in my
life (long story). As soon as I did, I was surprised
to find myself thinking of WLS as a very real
possibility for me and something I definitely wanted to
look into!
I am in the process of researching it, finding a
surgeon and plan on attending some support meetings
before I make a decision. Any input any of you can
give me would be welcome and appreciated! BTW, I am
5"5", 315 lbs. and am diabetic. I'm also being treated
for depression.

Easy way out poem

2007-01-15 20:19:33

Easy Way Out by THE MULE
You lost your butt
Where did it go
WLS you didn't know?
What did you say
easy way out.
makes me want to cuss and pout.
They split me open
the pain was a bender
felt like my guts were put in a blender
I only could eat an once or too
Every 4 days I can go poo poo.
I am all humped over from my incision line
I have never see so much betadine.
42 staples in my gut
just so one day I can wipe my butt.
I am loosing so much weight
I always can burp
And you said Easy Way
Your really a twerp.
Written in defense of those who have gone before

Hi All!

2007-01-15 18:30:24

Hey!
I just wanted to drop in and say "HELLO" to everyone. I've been on the run just
about every minute of every day and haven't had the opportunity to visit with
you much.
I'm really proud of everyone's weight loss and progress. Keep up the good work.
Just to let you guys know, In the next 30 days I'll be moving my home (to the
coolest high rise apartment in Southside!), I'll be moving my office to bigger
digs on the first floor, I'll be going to Tijuana for 3-4 days for a conference,
I'll be going to Portland for 3 days for a conference and then I'll get back
just in time for my TUMMY TUCK! Whew! Life is a blur!
I just wanted you to know that even though I haven't been around too much - I
haven't forgotten you and I'm keeping up with your progress.
Today is a special day for me - I was adopted 40 years ago today!! Can you
imagine my parents, aged 37 and 40 at the time, adopting a 16 month old toddler?
Talk about culture shock! Ha Ha
Take care friends and remember that even though you might not see much of me
here, I'm never too far away.

I just visited with Christy Wells. Honestly, she has the sweetest spirit of

better and she asked me to let you know. She's battling a urinary tract
infection. She's hoping to go home today but hasn't heard anything yet. She's

photo test...

2007-01-12 20:58:43

Our group "settings" state that email attachments are permitted, so...
I'm going to give one a shot and see if some pictures I took actually
makes it all the way through the system. I am helping out a neighbor
who decided to try to save a few bucks by using a "lowballer" contractor
for his last roof job and then didn't sit there with a shotgun in his
lap while the work was being done, NOR did he actually take the time to
inspect the work after it was done. 2+2= 3 years later, and I am going
to have to replace about $5000.00 worth of roof decking that should have
been replaced when the roof was put on and/or rotten/water damaged wood
that was caused by the roofer and the people who put the vinyl siding on.
Here's the short story...
My neighbor had vinyl siding put on his house by a company in Alabaster
who specializes in "home works". When the siders actually applied the
siding, they started this ball rolling by nailing new vinyl siding over
bad existing wood siding. Then the homeowner chose the wrong roofers to
do a roofing repair, and subsequently got talked into a "low ball" price
for re-roofing the whole house. Well, these guys took every shortcut
known to man. You see once a "price" has been set, then the contractor
has to keep the job under that price, NO MATTER WHAT, in order to make a
profit. And whenever they encountered bad roof decking that needed to
be replaced, they actually nailed a sheet metal "patch" over the bad
section instead of replacing the wood, which would have meant them
having to put "more" into the job in the extra materials, AND the extra
labor to replace the bad wood.
The end result is he now has vinyl siding that he's still paying for,
that is "falling off" his house because the bad wood it was originally
nailed to has continued to rot and deteriorate and will no longer "hold"
a nail. And since the roof has been slowly leaking since it was
installed AND the bad wood that was covered with a metal patch has
continued to rot and deteriorate too, I now have to strip the "new" roof
on this particular section down to the deck, and replace the bad wood.
In essence, he'll be paying TWICE for the roofing and the vinyl siding.
Here's the pictures...
a-2x6gone: There used to be a whole 2x6 roof joist here, now rotted
away, and remember this roof was put on just 3 years ago.
b-patch: Underside of bad wood with patch nailed in place, it leaked,
bigtime resulting in rotting away of a structural 2x6, and the soffit
and fascia area below the patch.
c-mybutt: There was so much water flowing through tat roof, I thought
I'd look for FISH!
d-patch: One of the two "patched" areas after I stripped the shingles
and underlayment. There was an identical patch on the other corner too.
e-patch: Closer view of a "patch".
f-nextpatch: Some of the other patches I discovered while inspecting
other parts of the roof.
g-badsiding: The brown stuff at the bottom of the siding is the old
rotten siding as it deteriorates and falls away, sliding down the
backside of the vinyl siding. This is what the vinyl siding is supposed
to be nailed too!
h-badsiding: Another shot of the deteriorated original "masonite"
siding behind the vinyl siding.
i-badgone: View after I removed some of the bad decking.
j-gone: Another view after I removed the bad decking. You can see the
"Mighty Worktruck" in the background. Look closely CHAN, yes, I have
more than one vehicle (5 to be exact).
k-worktruck: Closer view of the "Mighty Worktruck" for Chan.
l-newwood: New decking in place.
m-newwood: Another shot of the new wood.
So, if these come through... All of you should be able to "see" the
pictures in the email post, fingers crossed... here we go....
Tim.

[INLINE]
I just have to share something with all of you. My wedding ring was needing to be re-sized. My sweet husband decided instead of re-sizing my ring, he would buy me a new diamond ring. We went to Gatlinburg during spring break and on the way back, he bought me the most gorgeous 3-diamond ring. This is supposed to represent the past, present and future. I just hope that the center diamond represents the future, because I hope there will be a lot of future together.
This surgery has given me so much hope for a future with my family. I am enjoying each day more and more. Thank you all so much for being my support.

Kathy,
I am feeling so much better now. I actually feel like me again. LOL Wasn't sure for a while there I would ever feel normal again. I still feel hollow but I think that is because of getting the old baby baker yanked out!! My Fed-Ex man asked me last week if I was losing weight, I just smiled and said just a little. LOL Was really nice to have a man other than my husband flirt a little with me. That is not saying that I love my husband any less or would even venture out, but was just plain old good for my ego! Bring that caffeine with you cause this old lady will need it after a night of no or little sleep. I am so proud of you! You are just dropping that weight like crazy. Keep it up!

Birthday Wishes

2007-01-10 06:12:24

I just wanted to thank all of you for the birthday wishes. I had a very nice day Saturday. I took Alex to see Thomas the Tank Engine at the Railroad Museum and that was wonderful and lots of fun. Then I spent the evening at dinner with friends and family. My life has changed so much over the last year. Last year I weighed 281 pounds on my birthday and was completely miserable. I had nothing to wear because nothing would fit. My health was horrible with high blood pressure panic attacks and thyroid issues no one could quite fix yet. This year I weighed in at 197 pounds, only 47 pounds to go until I reach my goal weight of 150. I have no high blood pressure no panic attacks and my thyroid is in check now. I still have nothing to wear but that is only because I need to buy a new spring wardrobe to fit me LOL. I played all day with my son and still picked up around the house and didn't have to have a nap before dinner. So my life is good. By the way I turned 29.

Keeping food down

2007-01-10 01:58:14

I am about a month out from surgery and am having problems keeping
food down. Some things goes down fine, but then I will have several
days when nothing goes down and stays. Things such as 1/2 bag of
oatmeal which was fine on Friday morning makes me sick on Saturday
morning. It doesn't make sence if something is fine one day and the
next day the same thing makes me sick. Can anyone help? If the same
thing made me sick I just wouldn't eat it, but I don't know what will
make me sick at this point. By the way it isn't like dumping. I
don't feel bad, I don't do the things that people talk about when
they talk about dumping. I just feel the food goes so far and then
just stops. Terri Hyatt

Saturday Humor II, in case the fisherpeople come back empty...

Whether you are pushing 40, 50, 60 (or maybe even just
pushing your luck) you'll probably relate.
Mid-life is when the growth of hair on our legs slows down.
This gives us plenty of time to care for our newly acquired
mustache.
In mid-life women no longer have upper arms, we have wingspans. We are
no longer women in sleeveless shirts, we are flying squirrels in drag.
Mid-life is when you can stand naked in front of a mirror and you can
see your rear without turning around.
Mid-life is when you go for a mammogram and you realize that this is the
only time someone will ask you to appear topless.
Mid-life is when you want to grab every firm young lovely in a tube top
and scream, "Listen honey, even the Roman empire fell and those will too."
Mid-life brings wisdom to know that life throws us curves and we're
sitting on our biggest ones.
Mid-life is when you look at your-know-it-all, beeper-wearing teenager
and think: "For this I have stretch marks?"
In mid-life your memory starts to go. In fact the only thing we can
retain is water.
Mid-life means that your Body By Jake now includes Legs By Rand McNally
-- more red and blue lines than an accurately scaled map of Wisconsin.
Mid-life means that you become more reflective... You start pondering
the "big" questions. What is life? Why am I here? How much Healthy
Choice ice cream can I eat before it's no longer a healthy choice?
But mid-life also brings with it an appreciation for what is important.
We realize that breasts sag, hips expand and chins double, but our loved
ones make the journey worthwhile. Would any of you trade the knowledge
that you have now for the body you had way back when? Maybe our bodies
simply have to expand to hold all the wisdom and love we've acquired.

The farmer says, "Some things you just can't explain."
"So what happened that is so horrible?" the man asked.
The farmer then decides to try and answer, "Well if you must know, today
I was sitting by my cow milking her. Just as I got the bucket about
full, she took her left leg and kicked it over."
"That's not so bad, what's the big deal?"
The farmer says, "Some things you just can't explain."
"Try me" the man says.
The farmer relenting, continued "I took her left leg and tied it to the
post on the left with some rope. Then I sat down and continued to milk
her. Just as I got the bucket about full she took her right leg and
kicked it over."
"Ok so 2 buckets of milk spilled. That still isn't that bad."
The farmer says, "Some things you just can't explain."
" So, what did you do then?" the man asked, intrigued.
"I took her right leg and tied it to the post on the right. I sat back
down and continued to milk her, and just as I got the bucket just about
full, the stupid cow knocked over the bucket with her tail."
"Wow, you must have been pretty upset!" but that's no reason to just
sit here getting all depressed."
The farmer says, "Some things you just can't explain."
"So then what else did you do?" the man asked again.
" Well I didn't have any more rope, so I took off my belt and tied her
tail to the rafter.
That's when my pants fell down and my wife walked in.
"Like I said! Some things you just can't explain."

Happy Birthday!!

2007-01-08 02:26:08

Robin, hope you have a wonderful Birthday today. Still can't believe
you won't spend it fishing with us. LOL
Well we are off to Bibb County lake to fish some, we are meeting
George out there. Got all my plastic lizards ready, I have to kick
my husbands but with the number of fish I catch, Ha Ha
Sometimes it works out that way and sometimes not. Oh well, will be
fun anyway.
Hope you all have a wonderful day on this gorgeous Saturday. Robin
you couldn't have asked for any better weather for your birthday.
Love ya,

Roller coaster ride!

2007-01-07 16:20:35

Hi gang!
Well, the roller coaster ride never ends. Dr. Sherer wants me to wait 3
months before having the surgery. As you know, I had a surgery date
scheduled for April 23, but when I told my surgeon, Dr. Sherer, I had to
take a round of prednisone in March for an acute attach of asthma that would
not let up, he felt that it would be too risky right now to do the surgery.
He needs us to wait 3 months. His nurse, Diane, said he had just recently
had some complications with a woman who had been on a similar dosage of
prednisone as I had so he want's to be extremely careful in the future.
Of course, I was at first very upset, but then I realized that God had
absolutlely taken charge and answered my prayers. I have prayed for a safe
surgery and asked that he show me the way. Well, He is saying wait til your
body heals a little more. I'm fine with that today. In fact, I am more
confident than ever that God is listening and He is in control. Now, if I
can just get out of his way and quit trying to exert my own will! hee hee
Just wanted to let you all know. Thanks for your encouragement. It means
everything to me.
Love,
Marilyn Miller

DOGGIE FOR SALE----WHITE WESTIE TERRIER

2007-01-07 08:40:14

I have a wonderful Westie doggie and i need to find him a home. My
landlord says 3 doggies to many. All are males and show dominance by
hiking leg. Max is house trained and crate trained. He is
neutered/yrs old. Must have a fence. He loves to play. Asking fee I
paid for him. I got him in December for $200.00. He needs you......I
would give him to someone with a good home and vet references but I
think I will need this money for my fruit and nut doctor.

Letter to a bank - customer fires back...

2007-01-06 16:24:02

The guy who wrote this is a genius..
Letter to a Bank - Below is an actual letter sent to a Bank in the United
States. The Bank Manager thought it amusing enough to have it published in
the New York Times.
Dear Sir:
I am writing to thank you for bouncing my check with which I endeavored to
pay my plumber last month. By my calculations some three nanoseconds must
have elapsed between his presenting the check and the arrival in my account
of the funds needed to honor it. I refer, of course, to the automatic
monthly deposit of my entire salary, and arrangement which, I admit, has
only been in place for eight years.
You are to be commended for seizing that brief window of opportunity, and
also for debiting my account by $50 by way of penalty for the inconvenience
I caused to your bank. My thankfulness springs from the manner in which
this incident has caused me to rethink my errant financial ways. You have
set me on the path of fiscal righteousness. No more will our relationship
be blighted by these unpleasant incidents, for I am restructuring my
affairs in 2002, taking as my model the procedures, attitudes and conduct
of your very bank. I can think of no greater compliment and I know you
will be excited and proud to hear it. To this end, please be advised of
the following changes. I have noticed that whereas I personally attend to
your telephone calls and letters, when I try to contact you, I am
confronted by the impersonal, ever-changing, pre-recorded, faceless entity
which your bank has become. From now on I, like you, choose only to deal
with a flesh-and-blood person. My mortgage and loan repayments will,
therefore and hereafter, no longer be automatic, but will arrive at your
bank, by check, addressed personally and confidentially to an employee at
your branch whom you must nominate. You will be aware that it is an
offense under the Postal Act for any other person to open such an envelope.
Please find attached an Application Contact Status which I require your
chosen employee to complete. I am sorry it runs to eight pages, but in
order that I know as much about him or her as your bank knows about me,
there is no alternative. Please note that all copies of his or her medical
history must be countersigned by a Notary Public, and the mandatory details
of his/her financial situation (income, debts, assets and liabilities) must
be accompanied by documented proof.
In due course I will issue your employee with a PIN number which he/she
must quote in dealings with me. I regret that it cannot be shorter than 28
digits but, again, I have modeled it on the number of button presses
required to access my account balance on your phone bank service. As they
say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Let me level the playing
field even further by introducing you to my new telephone system, which you
will notice, is very much like yours. My Authorized Contact at your bank,
the only person with whom I will have any dealings, may call me at any time
and will be answered by an automated voice service: Press buttons as
follows:
1. To make an appointment to see me.
2. To query a missing payment.
3. To transfer the call to my living room in case I am there.
4. To transfer the call to my bedroom in case I am sleeping.
5. To transfer the call to my toilet in case I am attending to nature.
6. To transfer the call to my mobile phone if I am not at home.
7. To leave a message on my computer, a password to access my computer is
required. Password will be communicated at a later date to the Authorized
Contact.
8. To return to the main menu and to listen to options 1 through 7.
9. To make a general complaint or inquiry. The contact will then be put on
hold, pending the attention of my automated answering service.
While this may on occasion involve a lengthy wait, uplifting music will
play for the duration of the call. This month I've chosen a refrain from
"The Best of Woodie Guthrie: "Oh, the banks are made of marble, With a
guard at every door, And the vaults are filled with silver, that the miners
sweated for."
On a more serious note, we come to the matter of cost. As your bank has
often pointed out, the ongoing drive for greater efficiency comes at a cost
which you have always been quick to pass on to me. Let me repay your
kindness by passing some costs back. First, there is a matter of
advertising material you send me. This I will read for a fee of $20 per
page. Inquiries from the Authorized Contact will be billed at $5 per minute
of my time spent in response. Any debits to my account, as, for example,
in the matter of the penalty for the dishonored check, will be passed back
to you. My new phone service runs at 75 cents a minute. You will be well
advised to keep your inquiries brief and to the point.
Regrettably, but again following your example, I must also levy an
establishment fee to cover the setting up of this new arrangement. May I
wish you a happy, if ever-so-slightly less prosperous, New Year?
Your Humble Client,
(Name Withheld)

know the cost is $375.00 They will let you make
payments but no report will be sent back to Dr. Miles
until all the money is paid to her. Hope to meet you
and everyone else. As I read the postings I feel the
true caring that each of you have. Say a prayer for
Rickie as we wait for the OFFICIAL word from the Ins.
Then on to the WLS date. LOVE to all Lynda

Connie:
I had surgery on August 13th and my husband had his on February
25th. You can read our profiles on obesityhelp.com. Go to "Find
Peers" and then click "Alabama" and you will find us in the town of
Hokes Bluff. Both of us had surgery with Dr. Laws at Carraway. Ron
had a rougher time than me, he had some internal bleeding and had to
return to the hospital two weeks later. He's five weeks post-op now
and is doing a lot better. His anemia causes him to be tired, but he
is slowly building up strength.
The surgery has been prayers answered and a dream come true. If I
had to do this once a year to keep it off, it would be worth it all.
Last summer I bought a size 30 dress for a job interview--today I
bought a size 16 pair of shorts and a XL misses top.
We plan on being there at the Saturday meeting on the 20th.

TO CONNIE :MY ANGEL FRIEND

2007-01-05 17:55:49

I know you are getting excited & I am so excited for you. I am
trying to quit smoking(nasty dirty butts). I have had a chest cold so
I have not smoked in about 4 days. Do any of you all in the group
ever get together and go out to dinner and a movie?? Hows that
grandbaby??? I went to see Dr. Flippo Wednesday(cute as a button)
just had his hair highlighted, looked marvelous. Wanted to scoop him
up and put him in an ice cream cup. He is real excited about the
surgery. He keeps saying just let me know when you want me write the
letter. I told him i was still worried about my insurance. He said he
thinks my BMI is so high (about 53)I dont have to worried. But also
have heard the Land of Fruit and Nuts doctor cost $350.00. ummmmmm
got to go home. I believe my son has let my white dogs outside and
did not let them back inside. Grass freshly mowed, so they will be
green. Any body heard from Christy Wells?

such a slow process

2007-01-05 17:03:19

I know everyone has to go thru the same thing. But am I the only one
who gets depressed waiting. Connie has really helped me thru a lot of
the stress of waiting and wondering if my insurance will approve. Of
course it would probably be better if i would not stress until I have
at least been to the seminar so I can make an appointment. Now I am
worried I will not get an appointment until fall with Dr. Miles. I
went to the support group meeting and enjoyed every minute. I could
go once a week. I met so many nice people.
Also just in case anyone is interested I have a Westhighland White
Terrier 4yrs old neutered, housebroke, wonderful animal. Landlord
says I need to find him a new home. I have 2 males in the house and
they all want to dominate (hike the leg). It's just a man thing. I am
asking a fee,vet references and must have a fenced in back yard. He
loves to play and have someone throw and he retreive. His name is

Hello group:
Just a quick note to let you know that I FINALLY HIT 100 POUNDS!!!!
I've been in the 90's for about 6 weeks, but finally broke the
plateau. Today a girl from the Century Plaza location of Lane Bryant
called to tell me about a sale and I got to tell her that I don't
need them anymore (in a nice way, of course!)
My husband is feeling better--he has had a rough go since his surgery
on Feb 25th. Getting better all the time.
Take care, I'm keeping up with all of you...See you at the next

REF: anything for helping children

2007-01-04 04:52:02

My soap box By Dave Odom (MULE)
There is nothing wrong with the children of today. They are born same
way but, due to all the medical break thrus have a much better chance
of survival.
They have more chances of being kind caring loving individuals than
any children in history.
The have better means of education. The vehicles to socializaton are
endless via the phone and this little machine I am typing on called
the world wide web.
Not being a medical person asked JOY SUGGS but I tink the chemical
make up is essentially the same as thousands of years ago.
The problem is parents. Aside from some genetical make up problem. I
do realize having 4 children of my own that altho they come from the
same loins they can display a variety of personality traits. Which as
parents should be delt with accordingly.
The best way to destroy a child,s chance of becoming a productive
citizen is to take away consequences. Be sure and tell them it is not
thier fault. Also if a neighbor, your friendly police officer and
especially a teacher calls and advises you of a mild trespass or a
dastardly deed reply immediatley "NOT MY CHILD" they would never do
that be sure you are looking at the child with a smug grin.
I have four children as good as anyone could ask for. Two living on
there on (one because) although legally an adult felt she could come
and go as she pleased. So I calmly pulled her aside told her what an
exciting time in her life it was ,and I realized she was seeking her
independence. So I devised a plan to help her. I explained that she
was hard pressed to follow my rules so she should make up her own AT
her own paid for place of residence. You know what when I visit her I
follow her rules lol. She now knows the price of freedom. Although far
from perfect she has grown.
Now you know WE do not have a child problem but a parent problem.
It takes a village to raise a child but a parent to bust it's ass.
Sorry if I offended anyone but my opinion was asked

Pictures?

How come there aren't very may pictures so we can put
more faces to our emails? That is how I recognized
the "famous". You know, Tim and Joy, Rona and Wade, Lisa
and Wes. Is there a specific weight loss required before
posting pictures? One day I want to be famous too. If
you have to be a couple to be famous then you guys are
going to have to find me a man. He has to be a Christian
that loves to fish and push a woman around.(only in my
wheelchair)Love Peggins, surgery date 4-18-02, isn't
that cool. I am a little excited and would be doing
the "I got a surgery date dance" but it would really
make me hurt if I did. In my mind I am dancing though.

Gurggling

2007-01-03 20:53:06

I have a question that anyone can answer. I have a problem with
gurggling when I eat or drink. I first thought it may be I was
eating to fast or too much, but it sometimes happens after taking
just a few sips of drink in the morning. It doesn't happen all the
time, it usually happens in the morning. I thought it may be because
there is nothing on my stomach, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have
this same problem.

IRS Recognizes Obesity As a Disease...

2007-01-03 03:59:23

Hey Hey Hey! Lookie here!
Tim.
IRS Recognizes Obesity As a Disease
Tuesday, April 2, 2002
WASHINGTON (AP) - Overweight Americans now have a new pocketbook reason
to shed some pounds. Recognizing obesity as a disease, the IRS says it
will begin allowing taxpayers to claim weight loss expenses as a medical
deduction.
``It really opens the gate for everybody to be at a healthier weight.
America really needs to wake up,'' said Linda Webb Carilli, a
spokeswoman for Weight Watchers International Inc.
Apart from the tax break, the Internal Revenue Service ruling could pave
the way for insurance companies and such government programs as Medicare
to offer coverage for obesity treatment, experts say. Now, it is usually
considered a symptom or precursor to some other disease.
``It legitimizes an important area that's been on the fringe,'' said
Morgan Downey, executive director of the nonprofit American Obesity
Association.
Taxpayers have been able to deduct the costs of weight loss programs as
a medical expense since 2000 only if they were recommended by a doctor
to treat a specific disease. Obesity itself was not recognized by the
IRS as an ailment that qualified for the weight loss expense deduction.
Tuesday's ruling qualifies obesity itself as a disease.
``It's going to help a lot of people,'' Downey said. ``Most of the
services are not covered by insurance and they can be fairly expensive.''
There is mounting evidence that obesity takes a huge toll on the
nation's health. In 1998, the National Institutes of Health estimated
that 97 million adult Americans were overweight or obese; the Obesity
Association estimates that 300,000 unnecessary deaths a year can be
attributed to the disease.
Obesity is defined by the federal government as excessive mass for a
given person's height. Some examples: a 5-foot-5 person is considered
obese at 180 pounds; for a 6-foot person, 221 pounds is listed as obese.
Obese people are at heightened risk of high blood pressure, diabetes,
heart disease, stroke, several types of cancer and gall bladder disease.
A social stigma also is frequently attached to being extremely
overweight, the Obesity Association noted.
The IRS ruling cited this growing body of research, including a recent
World Health Organization finding, for why it now believes ``obesity is
medically accepted to be a disease in its own right.''
To take the deduction, a taxpayer will have to participate in a
weight-loss program for medically valid reasons. Simply joining a gym or
a weight control program to ``improve the taxpayer's appearance, general
health and sense of well-being'' and not under a physician's guidance
will not qualify, the IRS said.
Also not deductible are diet foods, even if they are an integral part of
the weight loss plan. The IRS reasons that people have to pay for their
food whether or not they are trying to lose weight.
The deduction comes in the area of medical expenses, which must in total
exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income and can only be taken by
taxpayers who itemize their deductions.
The ruling applies not only to 2001 income tax returns - which are due
April 15 in most of the country - but as far back as 1998. Taxpayers who
want to take a deduction for past expenses need only file an amended
return for the tax year in question.
The IRS has included smoking cessation programs as deductible medical
expenses, as well as treatment and other costs related to alcoholism.
IRS Publication 502 has the details on the medical deduction.

I found this place that is really neat,
I can go there often, and not leave my seat.
It pops up on screen, when the buttons I mash
I can whoop and holler and not get a rash.
I can ask dumb questions and not get bashed.
I can can ask about potatoes, even if they are mashed.
This place has people that are really neat
So far as I've seen they can not be beat.
They are big ones and little ones and some in between
all in various stages of WLS you know what I mean.
Here in Bari city you can find many friends.
You don't have to drive a Mecedes Benze
You can talk when you are happy
You can talk when you are sad
You can talk when your even DOWN RIGHT MAD.
So next time you feel
down in the dumps
push them buttons we will kick some rumps
